CPUs intel xeon-D1522 versus i5-7500

Post by bancha » Wed Sep 23, 2020 6:32 pm

Hallo,

Is there any experience or results of cpu performance between an intel xeon d-1622 and an i5-7500 ?

Background info:
there is one tvs-882BR with an i5-7500 an 32gb Ram
Its running 3 virtual server - 1xdomain controler, 1xfile Printserver 1x an email archive system.
And it holds 40TB space for backup of user data and an external esx Host.
Presently, no performance issues, all services perform well.

However, I want to replace it with a qnap that can do deduplication.
Seeing my HBS3 deduplication results when backuping all data from the tvs-882br to an external Qnap,
the 40tb are reduced to 6 TB !

So, I assume, getting a qnap with deduping on the storage will get the roughly same result on the file system.

I am thinking of getting an ts-h886.
but I am not sure if the installed d-1622 CPU will match up with the i5-7500.

Any experience out there ?

I expect the Xeon® D-1622 in the TS-h886 to at least match the i5 and for most cases outperform it. I understand the i5 has a higher base frequency, but the Xone has hyperthreading and it is a newer CPU with means higher IPC. Also, Xeons are good for servers.

If you want to use inline deduplication, you may want to up the RAM. If you just want to use HBS3 deduplication for a backup job, then the 16GB RAM should be plenty.

Thx for input.

I understood that i5-7500 is baes on Kaby Lake, introduced 2016.
Whereas D1622 is based on Broadwell, introduced 2015.
So in a way its older from design.

However, I have another solution to this: the tvs-h1288x :)
