Nvidia Drivers

Post by jasonhollis » Sun Apr 21, 2019 3:08 pm

I'm running QTS version 4.3.6.0895 on a TS-1685

I had the Nvidia GPU Drivers 1.2 installed. There was no option to uninstall it so eventually I went into the qpkg directory and deleted it. I then try to install both manually and through the GUI but I get these failures every time. If I go to the downloads for the TS-1685 only the 2.0 GPU Driver exists there is nothing for the NvKernalDriver.

I'm stuck hints on what next would be great. I'm trying to get my Plex Container working with a Nvidia 1080 card.

Did you also remove the package configuration block from [/etc/config/qpkg.conf]?

Code: Select all

rmcfg NVIDIA_GPU_DRV -f /etc/config/qpkg.conf

So I did that rebooted and did a fresh install of the Nvida package but when it was done it still says version 1.2? Any ideas?

Nope. Suggest you create a support ticket with QNAP and ask them.

You are on QTS 4.3.x which supports NV 1.2

Newer NV Drivers are only supported with QT 4.4.x and it’s newer kernel.

I upgraded to 4.1.1 beta on my TVS-882 tonight, and have experienced the same issue with the same error. I did not uninstall 1.2 prior to the firmware update, and now, I am unable to upgrade the package manually, or via the wizard. The install fails with "Failed to install NVIDIA GPU drivers 2.0.0. You must first install and start NvKernelDriver >= 4.4.0.".

All the other apps updated without complication as well. In my settings, hardware transcoding remains enabled, and I can't seem to disable it either. Any advice would be appreciated as well.

I've tried manually installing again after a reboot, as well as via download using the standard app center with no luck and the same error message. I wonder if it's because I am running the TVS-882, and not one of the TS models? It would seem that the TS users are having less issues in the upgrade to the beta. The official beta only became available to me yesterday on the TVS-882 so I expect that this is still a work in progress getting the driver setup for my model? Google hasn't provided me with much help outside of this forum thread relative to the nvkerneldriver error.

I would try reinstalling 4.4.1.

There is a chance that nvkernel is only for models that support NVidia under QTS which I don’t believe the x82 families do.

I did all of this: installing all updates all apps, reinstalling automatically and manually, removing the codex pack and reinstalling, downgrading to previous 4.3.6 and reinstalling 4.4.1 - nothing helped. I'd opened a ticket at QNAP. So lets wait and see.

Oh, by the way: I'm having a TS-673. So not reduced to only TVS-NAS (which is the same but with Video)... you'll never walk alone :-)

Cheers,
Frank

I have similar issues with ts-677 ending with "Failed to install NVIDIA GPU drivers 2.0.0. You must first install and start NvKernelDriver >= 4.4.0" message. But I'm noticed that on qnap support site there is new section in download area named "drivers" and there is Nvidia GPU Kernel driver v. 4.4.1.0949. Downloaded, installed and than installed without any issue Nvidia GPU drivers 2.0. Just one thing to notice - after installation of kernel driver qnap ask to reboot - don't do this. Just installed GPU drivers.
