[HELP] Problems viewing photos on smart TV

Post by lukex » Tue Sep 05, 2017 2:58 am

I have a Samsung UE40J6200AK SMART TV and a perfectly configured NAS QNAP TS-212P :) (or so I hope) but I have never been able to see my pictures (or images in general) on TV.
I can easily see movies and videos of any type (xvid, divx, mkv, etc.) even with FULL HD resolution but there is no way to see a simple JPEG.
I can browse them and see the preview but when I pick them up from the TV the error is "File Format Not Supported".
This also happens with sample jpegs in the "samples" folder of the NAS!
Yet these same images I can see without a problem on TV if I put them in a USB pen.
No idea what could be the problem?
TV and NAS firmware updated to the latest release available.
The same problem I have if I try to see photos from a smarthphone android with VLC.
So i think the problem is something on NAS ...
Thanks for your help.

But can anyone confirm that it works and can you see photos using the TV?

Thank you for your suggestion! I have activated the third-party server "Twonky Media DLNA Server" and photo playback works! :D So the QNAP DLNA media server has a problem ... I will open a QNAP issue and see what they say.

Guys, just had this EXACT same issue this morning.

I fixed it by:

QNAP dashboard
Control Panel
Applications
DLNA Media Server
Advanced Settings
Browsing Settings
Change "Display Photo" from "Large Thumbnail" to "Original".

Click Apply All

Samsung TV finally came to life. Hope it fixes it for you.

For myself - what a STUPID DEFAULT (on the TVs it did work we were only getting 640x480 images). Somehow this was sending only a THUMBNAIL to the TV instead of the whole photo. The Samsung obviously did not like it. The LG and XBOX displayed it but the resolution was ** of course.

WHO SET THIS AS THE DEFAULT AND THEN HIDES IT SO FAR DOWN IN SETTINGS????

Hi Guy's,

I had exactly the same problem and I bypass it until today with twonky Media Server.
This server was free until the last version 8.5.1. Now the licence is paying and if You upgrade to this version You've to pay for using!
Thank's a lot for the tip i'll remove twonky server and the DNLA on my W10 PC.

if your twonky was free before..it will still be free (old devices) and will need a license on new(er) qnap models

On my Samsung smart TV, when I run a slide show, I found that there is a Samsung menu option called "Screen Fit" which maximizes the photo to the screen. Presumably other smart TV's also have a similar setting. I have also set my QNAP to Ramrunner's suggestion above - thank you very much for that.
