251+ as media center for 4k videos

Post by Alluka » Sat Sep 19, 2020 6:42 pm

Hello all!
I have a qnap 251+ that I used as storage and a little bit as media center. Then, I've recently bought a new old TV, and so I would like to use the qnap more as a real media center.
Do you think that my 251+ is ok for this purpose?
For example, I don't understand very well if I can show on my videos in 4k.. is the 4k supported on my was? Can I see the 4k using the HDMI cable?

If you have any further idea/suggestion, let me know! :D

Thank you very much!

qnap are bad players

use the qnap as a server and get another playback device (android stick, roku, appletv, htpc, etc)

Thanks @dolbyman!
And if I do something like that, can I truly see the videos in 4k on my tv?
With Plex or the Chromecast, is it the same?

if the devices support 4k

I play 4k HDR via plex and DLNA just fine on my TVs (builtin Plex and DLNA apps)

Ah ok.. I have an lg oled55b9, and yes it supports the 4k..
It has the support of DLNA too so in theory I'm ok :)
I will check if I can install Plex too
Thanks
