Spotify client

Post by Shumafuk » Sat Jul 18, 2020 8:56 pm

Is it possible to have Spotify client installed on NAS (mine is TS-253A) and control it in local network? For example from PC or mobile device connected to WiFi.

Something like Raspotify on Raspberry Pi. Official Spotify apps works only on HDMI running on. I want 24/7 running client. Thanks.

I don't understand

Spotify runs on everything - your mobile phones, tablets, PC's, TV's, xbox, Alexa, Goggle.
Qnap TS-1277 1700 (48gb RAM) 6x8TB WD White, 2x8TB WD Red - Raid5, 2x M.2 Crucial 1TB (Raid 1 VM),
2x SSD 860 EVO 500gb (Raid1 QTS), 2x SSD 860 EVO 250GB (Cache), 2x M.2 PCIe 970 500gb NVME (Raid1 Plex and Emby server)
GTX 1050 TI
Qnap TVS-1282 i7 (32GB RAM) 8x10TB WD White - Raid 6, 2x M.2 Crucial 500gb (Raid1 VM),
2x SSD EVO 500gb (Raid1 QTS), 2x SSD EVO 250gb (Raid1 Cache), 2x M.2 PCIe Intel 512GB NVME (Raid1-Servers)
Synology -1817+ - 2x10,2x8,2x6 (Ironwolf) 2x6 (WD Red) - SHR
Drobo 5n - 3x2TB WD Green, 2x3TB WD Red - Drobo Raid
ProBox 8 Bay USB3 - 8x4TB Seagate - JBOD
All software is updated asap.
I give my opinion from my experience i.e. I have (or had) that piece of equipment/software and used it!

I want control Spotify in my local network ie from PC, but running on NAS (output 3,5mm jack). So "connect to a device" list shows NAS as one of devices. For this, I need Spotify client/service that is running 24/7 on NAS. Not only when I plug HDMI in and start Spotify as one of installed apps in HD station.

Anyone? No one here use NAS as Spotify remote device in home network?

It looks like I need to run Spotifyd in Docker.

So I think I'm doing what you ask. Running on a 451.

But I'm connected with the HDMI at all times, and leave the HD station running - just as background. And yes, in that case then the TS451 appears as a device and I use the Spotify app on my phone/PC to control the music, just it plays on the NAS which is connected to my 5.1 amp. Works well in use, but I'm having an issue that I need to manually reboot the HD station quite often and it seems to need a lot of HDD read/writes as it starts that I would prefer to avoid - trying to work out a fix for that which is why I came on here...

I tried this myself using the built in QNAP spotify app and also the QNAP club one, for some reason it would only output my music in 2.0 and not 5.1 so I binned it off.

spotify is a music service..how would you think it would support 5.1 sound ?

what music is in 5.1 sound ? (besides special releases on DVD/Bluray)

In fact I tell a lie, it wasn't I couldn't get it in 5.1. I couldn't get it to come out of my AVR at all, it just kept playing through the NAS built in speaker.

Despite my default sound being set to HDMI 1 on HD station.

This is what I was doing, but it is not ideal solution because you need switch in HD station between Spotify and Kodi for example.
