Mixing WD GOLD with WD RED

Post by jsteng » Tue Jul 30, 2019 8:08 pm

I own a TS431P and needed to set it with RAID5 using 3 disks atm.
A local vendor has 2 pcs of WD GOLD.
a) Is it adviceable to mix 2 GOLD and 1 RED?
b) Or must I go all of the same color?
Likewise GOLD is discontinued, and I wont find any further GOLD replacements in the future.

thanks

As I was about to purchase the 2TB WD Gold @$60 each, He announced that since these are already discontinued (thus the bargain price), he can only provide 6 months warranty....

I had second thoughts and postponed the purchase.

What are your opinion?
a) WD GOLD, $60 each, 6 months warranty.
or
b) WD RED, $100 each, 3 year warranty, direct from local WD distributor.

Warranty is provided by the manufacturer so you always return to them.
Read the Online Manuals and use the forum search feature before posting.

It is a recommended to use RAID and have external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.

Submit bugs and feature requests to QNAP via their Helpdesk app.
