Synchronizing my two NAS in a thunderstorm⚡️

Post by ingvildkolnes » Thu Aug 20, 2020 6:15 pm

Hey, I've had some trouble with my NAS and it's been a while since I got it to synchronize. I FINALLY figured it out yesterday and it's now syncing! Yeey!
My problem is that it takes a lot longer than expected since it's been so long. It's been running for about 14 hours and is at 22% -- AND in about 19 hours a huge thunderstorm is forecast. Having my storage etc struck by lightning is my biggest fear and I always turn off and unplug everything. But now - it's in the middle of a sync. WHAT DO I DO? Can I stop the sync? Will that cause problems? Any suggestions and help is greatly appreciated!

So nothing bad will happen if I stop it? I was reading a bit in some forums and I felt like stopping a sync is like.. the worst thing ever!

a backup sync is fine

a raid resync (after drive swap or event drifting) is different

And a decent UPS is your friend, unless you are without power for long periods of time and then a generator is your friend :)
