HDD not spinning down in 4.3.3.0154

Post by dodgers30 » Wed May 03, 2017 4:12 pm

Model - TS-453A
Firmware - 4.3.3.0154 Build 20170413
Services enabled - CloudLink

I recently updated the firmware from 4.2.4 build 20170313 to 4.3.3.0154 Build 20170413, I have now observed that the hard drives do not spin down after the default 30 minutes, I have checked the setting in "Hardware" and the function is enabled.

I was working before the upgrade.

Has anyone else noticed this?
Is there anything I can check on the NAS to find what is stopping or running which stops the drives from spinning down?

Cheers

My impression is that there are a lot of moving pieces related to this issue that interact to cause, or uncause, this problem on different configs and QTS revs. Users and, for what little they are worth, QTS Tech Support seem to be playing a game of Whack-A-Mole.

You might take a look at these three, especially if one or more of them changed as part of the 4.3 upgrade. viewtopic.php?f=55&t=131538

QNAP just ** at providing good OS. My qnap have everything disabled and uninstalled and till cant make disks spindown.

The "funny" part is that nobody in qnap tries to resole problems all i see is pwilson with his BAD advices and always bias opinion. How many times he recommended changing disks when there was problem 100% with qnap, not disks.

leave pwilson alone he died 2 years ago, I personally do not car if the disks are spinning or not, they are designed for 24/7 use and the spin up and down is stressing the disks more than anything else

I'm not surprised as Qnap have never had USB disk spin down.

Some USB disk docks/enclosures offer spin down.
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!

A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.

All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!

What do you know about that? Only very rarely are any Qnap representatives in this forum.

This is a community where Qnap customers and users are trying to help each other. Apart from complaining, how do you intend to contribute to the community?

Hi Rasmus,

Thanks for your reply, this bug could be caused by myqnapcloud, please help disable it and monitor, 2nd line support are working on the debug build.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem since the update. Anything I can do to help fix it?

Has anyone tried running blkdevMonitor.sh? I haven't tried it on a 4.3.x build yet.

Looks like somewhere between every 5 and 10 mins, setcfg is touching a file called qid_persistent.conf

I'm going to generate a full log and report the issue.

Apparently qid_persistent.conf is related to Myqnapcloud which is installed and enabled but not set up on my device (i.e. the app is installed and running, but all the options within it are disabled). Anyone else having this issue *might* solve it by uninstalling Myqnapcloud (I think you can do that...) if your not using it.
